The Book of Dharma: Making Enlightened Choices by Simon Haas

IMG_5359Pfeew, August and September went by in a heartbeat and it’s been about 3 weeks since I’ve read a book (whoops!). I’ve been traveling for a bit and coming back home and back to work has been slightly overwhelming (not to mention beating off the jet lag).

So yesterday was my first real DAY OFF where I finally felt like I had time to pick up a book and just R-E-A-D…and that I did. My sweet friend gave me this book (The Book of Dharma: Making Enlightened Choices by Simon Haas) when we met in Denmark this summer, and I was so happy because I’ve had it on my Amazon wish list for some time.

I have to tell you that it’s SUCH A GOOD BOOK! On the other hand, it’s also kind of hard to read, because it makes you really think about your own “flaws” and what you’re doing or (maybe more importantly) what you’re not doing.

It’s 220 pages and I read it all in one GO. A lot of this information still needs to sink in, so I’ll come back to it again and do another post on it with quotes that I found interesting and helpful.

For now, I’ll end with this quote which is actually from Buddha …but also included in the book:

We are what we think.

All that we are arises with our thoughts.

With our thoughts we make the world.

Speak or act with an impure mind

and trouble will follow you

as the wheel follows the ox

that draws the cart.

We are what we think.

All that we are arises with our thoughts.

With our thoughts we make the world.

Speak or act with a pure mind

and happiness will follow you

as your shadow, unshakable.
